107 and 180 Sport Heads

Postby voodoo » Wed Sep 13, 2017 12:55 pm

Hi Guy's, can anyone possibly tell me what the differences are between the 107 and 180 heads?

Many thanks in advance,

Graham.

Hello John,
Thanks for your response.
-Yes I had seen that page and I appreciate that there is the core plug difference.

I was more interested in port shapes, port wall thickness' etc. etc.
-To see if the 107 casting was better/ worse than the 180 casting from a "basis for modification" point of view.

Thanks again!

Graham.

180 is the best as it was the final design they did and has the better casting and more material for modding.
However Sport heads can crack around the middle fixing bolt lug especially if they've been skimmed or wills rings fitted and not fitted with the correct thickness outer gasket. A point to check if buying one.

Thank you for the comments Peter.
Yes, I was aware of the cracking, having seen several with a run of welded as reinforcement in that area.
(I was not aware that the Wills rings mod was the cause of weakness!)
-I have both types, so wanted to know which to invest the time/ money on modifying.

Kind regards, Graham.

The Wills ring mod may be one cause but it's not the cause, I've had at least one normal head go there.
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?
