CSCC Races at Thruxton on 13th

Postby Teddie2003 » Mon Aug 08, 2016 3:05 pm

Just in case anyone is interested.

The Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) are at Thruxton this coming weekend.

Saturday the 13th has the older Classics

Swinging 60's, saloons and sports cars combined race
Future Classics, saloons and sports cars combined race
Classic K
and the Special Saloons and Modsports
plus the later Tin Tops for saloon cars

Might be Davrian's out in Futures and maybe Imp Special Saloons in the Special Saloons & Modsports.

I think It's only about £10.00 on the day for entrance, prices are on the Thruxton web site

These are some of the details from the CSCC web page.

This shows some of the special saloon cars in the garage at Silverstone from earlier in the year.

In case anybody is going.

This has the PDF with the provisional timetable for the weekend in case you do go.

On the Saturday, there is a mid morning break where nothing will run and Special Saloons and Modsports and Future Classics have their practice sessions after that with the races in the afternoon.

Yes I'm going but sadly not with the Imp but if anyone wants to talk imps see you by the Honda CRX in the special saloons area.

Hello Rob,

I called into the paddock on Saturday, but you were all busy after practice trying to sort out the gearbox on the CRX so I'll maybe catch up with you at another event.

Sat 13th

In the Special Saloons and Modsports race on Saturday unfortunately there wasn’t any Imp engined special saloons entered in class E.

So the only distant relative of an Imp engined Modsport Davrian car running at Thruxton was Ian Hall’s Darrian Wildcat T98 GTR. Ian’s Darrian runs a 5995cc evolution of a Rover V8, god knows how you stretch a 3500cc to that size!

Ian qualified 2nd just behind the Modsport Lotus Elan of Paul Sibley but he made a better start and despite the rapid Modsport Midget of Chris Southcott chasing him for the first few laps, he held off the recovering Elan to win the race by 0.61 seconds and lapped at over 100mph. This was followed up with a fourth and another win in the two races on Sunday.

In the Future Classics race on Sunday again no Imp engine Davrian’s were entered. The only Davrian was Myles 2 litre Mk8, but he had some problems and didn’t get to practice at all in the morning.

This meant starting from the back of the grid in a 33 car race line up, with some great out-braking manoeuvres especially passing the Mach 1 Mustang into the chicane he was flying through the field of cars. I think he was up to 3rd or 4th and had set the 3rd fastest lap time when he had to stop just four laps from the end.

So no Imp engined vehicles this time, but it was still a good days racing.
