Motorsport News Rally Championship

Motorsport News Rally Championship

This year we decided to enter the Motorsport News Rally championship which is a circuit based championship run over the winter months. Go to www.msnrallychamp.co.uk to see event details.

The first event is The Neil Howard Rally at Oulton Park on November 7th. We competed in the first rally at Oulton park 2 years ago and really enjoyed it , probably because we had a class win. It looks to be a really good championship. If anybody remembers the Motoring News Rally Championship it will hopefully become as popular as that was.

Kitty has had a bit of a makeover over the last few months, starting with a professional rewire. When we built the car it was for racing, and when we converted it to a rally car
bits were added to the loom a bit haphazardly so all was stripped out and re-done, very well I must say, thanks to Mike Dent and Haggis.

We also have a new engine and transaxle. The transaxle is the most comprehensive unit built by Dave Weedon, which has already had one outing and a test day at 3 Sisters.

The engine is a Shrigley Engineering 'special' the full extent of which may never be divulged
but the class we run in is up to 1400cc and we are nearly there, its awesome and should be up to pulling 2 old fat blokes around.

I am hoping to tidy up the bodywork before the first round, but as always what once was a long way away is looming up, and we still have new shock absorbers and brakes to test. So if you want to come to Oulton and help us put the car together it may come to that.

The weekend after Oulton we are at Cadwell Park for round 2 then Rockingham in December for round 3.

We look forward to seeing anybody, especially from the Imp Club to support us, please say hello.

Hopefully reports on our 'antics' will be posted on the Impspeed website.

Ron & Alan

Ho ho, we are only allowed to go to 1150 (class limit), just need a couple more horses to be able to keep up with the 1300 Minis on the straights!

Is your championship for classics or moderns too?

Cheers

1150! what a wimp, dont tell anybody but the engine is1390cc and pulls 100 bhp @ 3000rpm. Alan has driven it @3 sisters and was well impressed. This wednesday we are back at 3 sisters for a final test and suspension set up with the afore mentioned 2 fat blokes in. This is a first for us normally we just show up and race.
i remember the Motoring News Rally Championship and Applaud the new Championship and Simon Benoys Championship win.

Keeping the Imp Alive and kicking ass

Very best of luck Ron. Suzy would love to see her long lost friend Kitty at Oulton Park, but Dawn & I will be in the USA - which makes it a bit difficult for her!

I'm sure that she could still find her way to Impspeed (always provided she could get out of the locked garage at home) but Oulton is another matter - although she has been close to it recently she hasn't actually visited the circuit since the early 1980s....

I believe suzy got all hot and bothered near Oulton when you picked her up after hospitalisation.

I will get some up to date photos on when Kitty comes out of the workshop today. We race against moderns in all the rallies we enter, which gives us the opportunity to develop the car as far as we have.

Got a lot to do today to get Kitty ready for tomorrow and Saturday so I had better get on with it.

Spent the morning at 3 sisters circuit with Alan,Mike Dent and Andy Jones, testing Kitty (yes us testing) my first ride in the hot seat.
That engine is awesome so much torque tried some new shocks, Mike Dent design, much better but the Mk2 version and a change of springs should be even better! not even more testing
Car is looking a bit better, still needs more tidying up. Having a bit of a problem getting used to the ner Helmets and hans device but i am sure we will get used to it.

Cant wait for saturday.

Thanks Rob, Ready to go home then defeated by a rotoflex, may be ok on a lotus but cant handle the power of an Imp! we have planned Jack Frost at Croft, Northwest stages and Anglesey then whatever the Rally championship throws at us. Off to Rockingham today cant wait. Engine has been stripped checked small repair and back on the Dyno at Shrigley.
All the power is between 3 and 6000rpm but andy gave us more before the limiter cuts in. Heavy duty rotoflex bolts and new shockabsorbers thanks to Mike Dent, now about these brakes.

Sorry about this but we have pulled out of The Jack Frost Rally. The engine will require a little more modification before we use it again,(still developing it) and it wont be ready and we dont want to rush Andy. We are still hoping to be in Blackpool for the Northwest Stages. Ron & Alan.
