silver stone finals Saturday 17 th oct celebrations

Postby Andy Hillman » Tue Sep 29, 2015 10:38 am

As you are probably aware by now Simon Benoy has won the historic salooncar championship.
A fantastic achievement that deserves to be celebrated.
I have spoken with the HSCC office and they have kindly agreed to post me 10 tickets FOC.
So if you fancy a day out send me a pm with your address and how many you would like and I will get them in the post to you.
I have arranged for a cake to be made for after the race, similar to the 50th birthday party we had,the cake will be large so please come a long and celebrate our ace little cars
Andy
Ps Lars hope you can make it again !!

I'm sorry, I would have liked to come over for the finals and THE CAKE  but I cannot do it this year. :(
Two birthdays clashes. My oldest son celebrates his 40s and a good friend her 50s. Suppose I'll have some cake though. :)
Hope everyone will have a nice time, and good luck to all racers.

Excellent end to the season and so many Impers there to share the day (and the cake!). I was involved in a race long battle with 5 1300cc Minis - it was very busy and we were very evenly matched so it was great fun to be a part of and decent entertainment for the spectators. Steve was also fighting with another Mini, a Jag and an Anglia - there were battles throughout.

Very sorry that Steve, Adrian, myself, team Gunton etc had to go off to the AGM - unfortunate timing and we only found out about it a few days ago - so a lot of talking time was lost.

Big thanks to Andy Jones for the engine, Dennis at Transimp for my 5 speed and Chris and Karen and all of you for your support - the Imp racers have more support than all the rest of the grid combined and it is greatly appreciated.

Cheers - Simon

Congratulations Simon on your championship and a thanks to all the other Imp racers for putting on a good show yesterday (and throughout the year). It was a great race. I can't imagine those tyres last long on those mini's with all that smoke at Brooklands trying to keep you behind.

For those who can't get enough of photos the usual Imps going round the usual corners I've some photos here from yesterday... http://www.jaypeaphotos.co.uk/Jay%20Pea%20Photos/Historic%20Motorsport/HSCC%20Silverstone%20Oct%202015/index.html. Having said they were the usual ones, there was Grahams lovely light blue Imp there yeasterday I'd not seen before.

Cheers,
John

Great pictures John, the detail is fantastic, you can really see how the cars are behaving and how close the action was!

The pictures you supplied for the end of season supporter's awards went down really well - thanks for your help with that.

Fantastic pictures, John! 8)

Saturday was a great "day at the races!" :D As has already been mentioned, well done to the Imp racers that have competed all season. Congratulations to Simon for a hard-fought Championship win!

I intend to come along to many more races next season, all being well.

Great pictures John, particularly of the other Imp powered car competing! Can I get copies from you or is it just a matter of downloading?

I'm just about recovered from Saturday and I'm overjoyed that it finally came good with the Clan. I not only finished practice but I also saw the chequered flag in the race. All with no real problems. Practice saw me 21st out of 31 starters and just a couple of places behind the class leading MG Arkley. Due to delays during the day it was getting dark for the race and lights were requested in the holding area. One marshal jovially asked if I had practice at racing in the dark and was a little surprised with my reply of yes at Oschersleben. Apart from a very short safety car period necessary for removing stranded cars at Copse Corner I had a great race. Finished 16th overall and 1st in Class and on the lead lap but just missed out on the Class fastest lap by 0.2s. You can't win them all.

What will I be doing next year? I'm not really sure as at the drivers meeting in the afternoon I was asked to support a 1300cc Class for all cars, metal and fibreglass, but somehow during the discussion this was amended to upto 1600cc and accepted. My argument against it fell on deaf ears with my practice times placing me in front of cars of greater capacity being used against me. After all of the trouble with carbs this year it makes me wonder if they don't want me.

Well done again to all the Imp racers and thanks again to the Benoy family for helping me out this year. Hope the wine goes down well. The cake looked brilliant but I had to go to my driver's meeting so missed the chance of tasting it!

It was enjoyable to finally get to see you compete in your fabulous Clan, Pete. :D Well done on the result - and the finish, obviously! Your car ran sweetly and sounded wonderful, howling past us on the pit wall!

I hope, despite what you said above, that you do come out and compete next season. Anyone would understand if you chose not to, for obvious reasons.

OK all - I have created a video from the in car at Silverstone, but only from my old camera as I forgot the memory card for the new camera, so quality not so good.

If you are interested, the url is https://youtu.be/z24i5t30y5E

Hope you enjoy it, I certainly did!
