Had a great race with no trouble for a change apart from the fan belt shredding its self, but the battery kept it going luckily. Well done Steve I tried but just could not catch the group you were in.

Simon you misfire sounds like a flat battery,I had the same fault at Oulton park some time ago, did it still turn over after the race if not there is the answer.

Just checked the results for Race 2 from Croft........I know you said it was a better race, Simon, but winning the class by 3/1000s from Andy is cutting it a bit fine ;) Although looking at it - that was the difference between your last lap times, so you must have crossed the line to start the last lap absolutely side by side!

Wish we'd come over on Sunday morning, now!

Congratulations Simon on two more class wins at Brands at the weekend. Was it enough to confirm the championship for this year?

Thanks also to Chris for the hacksaws to enable me to start the 70's Roadsports race on Saturday with full throttle. Pity I couldn't keep going to the end! At least I provided the spectators with some entertainment.

Pete - yes the two class wins at Brands were enough for my dad to clinch the championship for the first time since '07.

Even I was shocked at the sheer number of junior hacksaws that my dad had living in the bottom of his tool box, I think you used 4 different ones in the end to trim that bolt. Something to be said for disorganisation.

You certainly provided some entertainment with your spin through paddock and then the trip across the gravel that ultimately ended your race with a belt slipping off in the process. Perhaps next time we will aim for about 80% throttle to keep things a little more steady?

Also well done to Steve Platts for two exceptionally well executed moves into paddock hill bend to overtake the pair of minis that he spent the second race battling with and ultimately beat. Top driving.

Steve's in car video is up here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtePAk3 ... e=youtu.be

Thanks all - it has been a good season and I hope that you have all enjoyed the efforts of the Imp racers. It is fantastic to see so many of you at meetings. Brands went very well, which is a good thing as we had to miss WWW to take part! A big thank you to Andy Jones and Shrigley Engineering for his help over the last 3 seasons and a most excellent engine, and also for his efforts to help Chris and I fix my clutch slave at Croft when he should have been fixing his own car. Next Saturday, Adrian and I are taking part in a non-championship race at Castle Combe and we end the season at Silverstone on 17th October when we hope to have some celebratory cake!

Graham Traxson merits a mention too. In order to make sure he attends every race meeting this year in his early mk1 Imp he left the campsite early on Saturday and drove all the way to Brands, watched the race and drove back to WWW for the last of the evening's festivities! A true Imp Star! :D

Congratulations Simon!! a long time coming, lucky the Imp National was near Croft this year :-)

Great race by Steve on the Sunday, we were sitting by Paddock - so got to see his late braking into Paddock to see off those Mini's

Very envious that i wasn't out.. back problems following Oulton Park. But promised Oliver and Elisabetta a weekend camping @ Brands and know they had loads of fun building a mini village in the dirt with Dax, on the way upto Druids, apologies in advance to anyone that falls down the hole they dug...

Just watched Steve's video, great stuff! How does the camera pan from left to right, some sort of GPS driven 'map'?

Tomorrow there is a historic meeting at Castle Combe and Adrian and I have entered the saloons race along with several of our usual competitors and a few cars we don't usually see. Should be a good day if anyone fancies coming to spectate.

Cheers - Simon

Excellent race at Castle Combe yesterday - not a big grid but battles throughout. I qualified 8th but had several quick Minis immediately behind on the grid. Made a decent start (I had read the SRs and knew it was a flag start in period style) but soon had Tim Harber slipstreaming past on the approach to Quarry. I got back ahead and Tim then had a fight with Paul Inch's Mini Cooper, as Tim dropped away a bit Paul was able to attack me in the same place that Tim had and it took me a couple of laps to find a way back in front between Quarry and the first chicane. By now the 1500 Anglia of James Claridge was catching both of us, so I had a bit of breathing space until he passed Paul, then he was able to get by me on the long straight. I tried to hang on to him for as long as I could and we were slowly catching the smokey Mustang of Alex Thistlethwaite. And then it was chequered flag time - after the race James was penalised 5 secs for track limit violations, as was Bob Bullen who had finished an excellent 3rd on the road but was demoted to 4th by the penalty behind the Lotus Cortina of Chris Sanders. The race was won by Michael Squire in a Mustang from Chris Clarkson's Falcon. Adrian Oliver was battling with Jags, Colin McKay's S type which retired, possibly with the loss of a rear wheel and an extra entry in the shape of an XK150 of Marc Gordon. If my video is ok, I will post in a couple of days.
Just the finals at Silverstone on Saturday 17th to go now. Not my favourite circuit, but the atmosphere is usually good and we will have cake!

In car video from my dad's car from the castle combe race, there is a gap in the middle as it was a bit boring (on video, apparently very close in reality)

Found some photos from Castle Combe on Retro Rides website - 2 photos of Simon on 3 wheels exiting Quarry corner near the bottom of the page... ahead of a gaggle Minis.. and described as probably the posters favourite photo of the day...

I do like those photos, had my mirrors full of Minis throughout, sometimes in front as well!

Another battle looming at Silverstone on Saturday - there are several Minis entered and 3 Imps, myself, Steve Platts and Graham Briggs - Adrian is resting his car this time, the club circuit isn't at all Imp friendly, but I believe he will be there for some of Andy's cake!

Looks like it will be on the chilly side, but probably dry, so bring plenty of jumpers/coats if you are planning to join in the fun - Silverstone is cold even in summer!

Cheers - Simon

I'm going to have to miss Silverstone tomorrow chaps I'm afraid. Just managed to get LNK running a bit but now have to get ready for work so tomorrow will be spent trying to get him running properly in time for our Glorious Leader's Milton Keynes run on Sunday.

Good luck to all the Imp racers and well done again to Simon. :D
