4 x special saloon imps Mallory Park 20th July

Post by Andy Hillman » Sat Jul 12, 2014 11:13 pm

Full grid of 30 cars booked in for Mallory Park next Sunday including 4 plastic imps!

So if your not otherwise commited then would be great to see Hillman fans at the meeting.
cheers Andy

Hi Andy,

Is there any info on what the day's timetable will look like anywhere? How many races/etc.
Looks like it could be a good day out for a £10er if the sun is out!

Regards
Frank Claydon

Frank, just google CSCC revival at Mallory Park, there will be 3 modsports/special saloon races and a group 1 touring car race, all on Sunday. Not seen an entry list yet but a certain Mr Jones will be having a go.

Well if you didnt get down to Mallory for the special saloons race it was your loss as what a great performance by the 4 hillmans that turned out to race.

I will let the other drivers tell there tales and stories.

Big thanks to The wife who was on hand to help and supply food and drinks and battery carrying and simon Hulse for his help as well and to the Hillmanator who put on some show.

Drivers Kevin cooper/Tony Handsford, John Woods & Rob Knox, Martin in stuart Rodwells car and the Hillmanator/ AKA Andy Jones in the AG shrigley imp, Take a huge bow!

3 races with 4 superb Hillmans out battling away, lots of wheel to wheel action and several superb moments of 4 hillmans flat out down the front straight, near side by side going into Gerrards .....

Probably the best race meeting Ive ever been to with so many huge and powerfull cars and excellent battles going on all over the circuit.

Im not going to say to much as I could write and documentary on the weekend but you realise what racing is about and who can drive and who carnt when you get your car to the grid on a budget of £7.50 and enough fuel to put in the car.

Andy had raced the car once 3 year ago, so decided that he would go out last in quali and tootal around to see how it felt. After all hes only ever raced on slicks once LOL. Im not sure what he calls tootalling, but the tootalling had stopped on lap one as on lap 2, he posted a 52.5 to put the car 14 on the grid and 2 seconds clear of the other hillmans. Says something about the driver. As they say ! if a driver can drive he can drive anything! LOL

The great thing about this championship and these cars is that everyone is friendly and the hillman lads all get on real well so the battles that took place were clean and very very quick.

One of the best bits of racing and a serious brave move was with Jonesy and martin, Jonesy was coing from a couple of cars back, down the front straight and Martin was on full chat but jonesy managed to make the little AG shrigley imp slide up the inside with both cars side by side around Gerrards, UNREAL.

Unfortunatley our little engine suffered with some cooling issues which we will iron out once i get my next £7.50 inheritence from a long lost aunty lol.

I think kevin John and martin all got trophies which was great for the boys but i will be smiling for a long long time about the remarkable driving skills that our man shown.

Hopefully doing Oulton Park if that inheritence comes through in september LOL

If anyone else out there has a special saloon imp that they don't want to drive, David Heale was there with his helmet and overalls ready just incase.
Shrigley and the Maestro in space frames at Oulton- that would be worth watching! Ginetta003

Thanks Mike for the kind words, can you put a new helmit on the list of things to buy for Oulton Park, as my head will not fit inside anymore !!! :D
Car was awesome, i had a great day Thankyou.
great to see imp people in the crowds, when i was driving round i imagined it was 1986 and we were live on Grandstand ha ha got a bit carried away but car was very forgiving so managed to stay on the black stuff!
would be great to see David Heale out again maybe in the Rodwell hot seat ? but i expect he is busy testing for redbull or similar!
looking forward to national 9 more get ups !

Have to agree with the above comments - brilliant show put on by the plastic Imp lads. what a great circuit Mallory is - always seems to give close racing for us spectators. I've just uploaded some photos www.timbeckettphotography.com just click on Galleries from the home page.
