The gearbox

Post by Grumpyoldmen »

Are Jack Knight the best or only konversion to be found? Is welding and strenghening or other things to the case not neccessary for the 100 hp engine.

For racing, we mostly use a straight cut 4 or 5 speed box based on the Jack Knight gear sets or similar remade equipment. Some people strengthen the casing, some don't bother. Probably more important to strengthen for rallying and sprint/hillclimb use. You can also use a lowered 3rd/4th conversion which works out a lot cheaper but still works fine. There are several specialists who build them. Some series require the use of helical gear sets rather than straight cut.

Don't even think about buying anything from Jack Knight. Ignore their web site it does not contain an element of truth. If anyone from Jack Knight should see this then prove me wrong and give me my money back.

Pete;

Have you taken the matter up with Trading Standards by any chance? What a way to 'run' a business... :twisted:

Dave,

I did some time ago and at that time their service was about equal to Jack Knight's. Unfortunately I've had to put the whole episode down to experience but nobody else should get caught by them.

Can you specify who in "similar remade" and "several specialists" ?

It would be interesting to know.

Mr Richards and Mr Rooney has a very strong opinion about this Knight matter. Is it about the software or the hardware?

It's the take the deposit and then not delivering the goods. Check out on the internet and you will find out that I'm not alone in paying money, a considerable amount in my case, and receiving nothing in return.

Dave W (Impecunious) can help you with your gearbox needs, both full straight cut box or lowered 3rd and 4th gears.

You only have rights on copyright if the photo is your own photo and you can prove it. ie, anyone can take a photo of your car and they own the rights to that photo. You can however let them know that you are not happy with your car being used in their advertising and request they remove it.

Colin

Don't think anything was meant with the Mr - just a style of address. Check out his posts if unsure whether it was genuine question.

I do think there is a point in having at least a first name so we can identify people but in a good way :wink:

Well if you going to race yes some people say the 4 speed is better than a 5 but i work on the theory that if you have a 5 speed you can gear it for a long track and on a short track if you only need 4 then then you may get away without having to keep changing your ratios the biggest problem is getting hold of a box be it a 4 or 5 speed and there not cheap ,but give dave a ring as he is the man in the know
