Managed to get to Donington just after practice to find 2 engines not functioning as they should.
Picture attached of some of the action

Will let the racers tell their own story :)

Fantastic racing today at donington park, the stars of the day were david heale and steve platts who battled for class lead all race long! Everyone who i spoke to agreed it was the best race of the day. Great to meet new imp racer nick and his wife, chocolate cake was great idea for fattening the opposition up
Not sure what happened with mr benjoy, seemed to be going well, then he was on his side in the gravel pit ! luckily nothing more than damaged pride.
Cant wait till Cadwell park, i can see why nigel and john tavel all over to watch the racing, its very entertaining, i really enjoyed it.

I said i'd post of the vid of what happened  Here is Simon's full race. Somewhat frenetic and fairly short lived.

http://s300.photobucket.com/albums/nn39 ... 2full2.mp4

Some valuable lessons learnt...

1. Redgate is not a flat out corner.

2. Goddards is not a flat out corner.

3. Brake from a specific point rather than 'just' after the mini that has decided to go down the escape road.

4. Don't do silly things with a camera in the car

Unfortunately I had to depart just after the race finished. :(
My wife was unwell after her pacemaker op and family were worried how she was.
Enjoyed the race very much though. :)

It was a bit of a shame because we think the car is reasonably quick this year but we didn't get to find out how fast. The car behind Steve and David on the road at the end of the race (a good few seconds back) was Steve Read in the light blue anglia that my dad had already passed so it would have been nice to see how the speed compared to those two.

As has already been said, Steve and David put on a fantastic show for all the spectators. I've never seen such a close battle fought over the entire race and the fact they raced so quickly and so close says a lot for the high level of driving skill from both of them. Its exactly what the race series wants and shows us in slightly better light than than a few of the anglias that sometimes think they are in the BTCC.

So ending up on it's side didn't bring out the red flag?

How did they deal with that then, waved yellows till it was tipped up and moved or left in the kitty litter with yellows?

No red flag - waved yellows for a couple of laps. The CoC prohibited the marshals from attempting to push it out, so it stayed there for 10 laps and was joined towards the end by a stray mini which meant another laps worth of yellows!

I bet that was horrible having to stand and watch and hope nobody hit it.

Great in car footage, you looked like you were having a good time 'till you hit the tilt lever.

Ace vid Simon, was that david and steve just ahead of the mini just before your whoopsey?
Anyway next time dont get out of the car, just signal to the marshals that you want putting back on all fours, then fire her up and get back in the race.
i did feel for you having to watch all them cars out braking themselves whilst your poor imp was stranded only feet from the track

Did you notice that the mini sneaked behind yours so as not to be in the firing line

Andy - I think there were a couple of Anglias in the mix behind the Imps but I could still see Steve and David ahead. I doubt whether I could have caught them, as they were going very well, but I would have enjoyed trying!

Meltdown - I was worried that the Mini was trying to attack my Imp, but I think he was just trying to get as far into the gravel as possible, before getting stuck

Just watched the David Heales video. WOW! I could almost hear Murray Walker squawking away excitedly as the Minis were vanquished and the Lotus Cortinas were very worried! Great camera angle to so we get to see David at work and almost the whole windscreen - brilliant! More please!!! :D

Two absolutely awesome videos!

Are the two imps and two cortinas the first four cars on track? Or are they just leading a group?
The imp seems to have tons of extra speed at certain points compared to other cars. I desperately wish I could join the imp racers out there, it truly is my idea of heaven I think from watching those videos!!

There were I believe two cars on track ahead of the two cortinas. A Class D mini (1300cc) and a Class C lotus cortina that is very developed and very fast.

That said Steve and David ended up finishing 4th and 5th so a great result.

What scars me is the lift-off over steer when Steve Platts is in the way of Davids preferred line mid bend..I'd guess Andy Jones would just go around the outside and keep the throttle on...

Come to think about it, where was Andy?

I think Andy was still in the middle of fitting new brakes to his imp but he said he should be out at cadwell which is where the imps do best.

Great to see two Imps hassling the Cortinas & keeping them on their toes.
Well done Steve & Dave with that, great to see all the Imps doing their thing out there.

The HSCC are not going to mallory this year sadly, haven't been there since 2010. Its a shame because the imps went well there.

The next race is at Cadwell park on april 21/22nd then Silverstone on may 19/20th

I suppose the theory behind leaving the car in the gravel trap is "what's the worst that can happen, another car runs into it"? Haven't seen the vids yet but sounds like an interesting race, will have to get onto the videos tonight.

On another note, I was told that Jerry Lenstra sold the engine & box from his blue race car over to England, and was curious if anybody knows who bought it?
