HSCC Historic Touring Cars 2011

Things are getting near the seasons start again , how quickly it's come round again ! Has anyone any ideas who is planning to race (in a imp) this year ?

Should be a good season :) by my count last year at differing times we had 12 imps out, most of which I expect will be racing next year-

Simon Benoy
Andy Jones
Steve Platts
Adrian Oliver
Ian Gunton
Colin Gunton
Shaun Hazlewood
Graham Martin
Vince Frost
Martin Bramwell
Jim Mckenzie
David Heale

Plus I believe Nick (Meltdown on here) is planning to come out and I know of at least one other car being built for it but its been being built for it for a long time so if we will see it i'm not sure. Also sometimes cars we are not expecting come out so there should be between 10-15 imps racing next season.

I'll be there, though its looking increasingly unlikely I'll make it to the forst round. I need an engine, but have decided not to splash out megabucks for a first season so am looking for a s/h unit or bits to make one up.
Do me a deal? Employ me for 3 days and pay me for what I'm currently being paid for 5, then I'll have time to do everything!

What size engine / weight are you planning to run in meltdown ?
I sold my 998 towards the end of last year to fund my new 1040 and quaife gearbox , hoping for big improvements from them this year ???

I'm aiming for a 998cc which will put me in the lowest weight category - no-one could accuse me of eating all the pies

Jim

If you spell Donington incorrectly, they don't let you race there

Are you sure that the second one is for normal HSCC classes?

Hi Jim,

Yes my car is still with yours, wasn't planning on racing at donnington, not my favourite track, but may have to if there is potential for lots of imps, will def be at cadwell all being well, although still have to sort engine after oulton park failure.

Mine is back in rons Workshop now Allan Kitsons (kitty) is finished and ready for rally action ! Am not sure totaly what and how many events I will get to this year but will get to as many as I can , focusing on the southerly circuits and will see how it goes , I have a 1040 for this season from Rodwell Motorsport so hope for a reliable season , Ron is just finishing of on some work and hope to have it ready in the next few weeks. Another thing I was thinking about was the Hundred thousand society events ?? As I would like to try thruxton / castle coombe , both local ish circuits for me !! But am unsure if they are even racing there ???

They won't let you out at Castle Combe either

I really enjoy CC - it's a pity that we aren't there with the HSCC.
Never done Thruxton, but I don't imagine it is very Imp friendly. Not sure what the Silverstone Arena will be like for us either.

But looking forward to Donington and Cadwell....

Just need to get the car ready first.

Castle Combe is a great litle track, pity the local residents are such a pain in the ass. They shouldn't have moved next to a racetrack imo.

It seems to be the way nowadays with that. Croft suffered from this & a few other tracks have had "neighbour" problems aswell.. They should definatley do their homework before moving to a racetrack that has been there for decades..

I might have the opportunity of a short session there in april in lieu of my aborted time in december...providing the car's ready by then. Unless I can obtain an engine I might have to run an 875 sport! Also keeping fingers crossed for a tour of the new pits - hard hat at the ready!

Was up at silverstone on Friday collecting some new door numbers for my car (new grp doors this year !) and dropped my membership forms and cheque into Alan in the HSCC office , had a good chat about the series and how class E has / is going from strength to strength and is almost a imp class in it's own right !!
He told me Mr Martin is displaying his car at race retro in a few weeks !!
let's hope for a great grid full of imps in march.

Good luck to all the Imp racers this year, I think we should have 3 if not 4 racing in Australia this year - not among them myself though.

As there is no list here of the events, which I have just been adding to my diary, here goes:

March 20th - Donnington Park
April 24/25 - Cadwell Park
April 30/May 1 - Donnington Historic Festival
May 14/15 - Silverstone
June 11/12 - Snetterton
July 1/2 = Brands Hatch Super Prix
July 22-24 Silverstone Class
August 8/9 - Croft
Sept 11 - Brands Hatch Indy
Oct 22 - Silverstone Final Meeting

Not sure if the imps are in all of these events or on what days, plus there is a race in Dijon in october - not sure if it is part of the championship?

April 30/May 1 - Donington Historic Festival
July 22-24 Silverstone Classic

I don't think either of these are HRSR events. Dijon is non-championship if there is a saloon race - not confirmed either way.

And Croft is the same weekend as Imp Cymru.

Thanks - Simon

Simon, is that for the first meeting or the championship in general? When I phoned HSCC they said come back when the car's ready.

Last year, the grids averaged more than 30 cars and a couple of rounds had reserves - most meetings should be ok but best to get in early just in case.

For a spectator point of view, which circuit is best for me to be able to walk around and take photo's? I like being able to walk the perimeter of the track at Combe and take shots from every corner - is this possible at any of the listed tracks?

Only been to Donny before, and that was back in 99 when I was only 10...

I think that Brands Hatch has some good vantage points. Silverstone is rubbish, though! Unless you have a camera with a proper telephoto lens, that is. Very intrusive fencing. It's not like I walked the whole circuit in either case, though. Apart from that, I have never spectated at Donington (only driven on it - at a Nissan customer track thingy aeons ago and I wasn't even a customer - a friend's dad was). I have not really been to many tracks, actually. Thruxton is good but is it an HSCC round?

Rambling on again...

Brands is pretty good. On the inside at Druids you can get very close and there's not much fencing in the way either. another bonus is it being the slowest corner the cars are easier to catch!

There are several places at Silverstone where the catch fencing is lower that your line of sight - Luffield, Copse exit, inside of Maggots, Vale, the Arena is good from the new stand, Brooklands BRDC stand - but I'll grant a telephoto is useful. Mind you, most digital compacts will do the job ok. Probably the best circuit for closeness is Cadwell, especially entering the mountain section where you're almost right above the cars. Brands is good in places. Donnington is currently crap as I've heard there's no access to the inside at the mo. Oulton Park is also v.good and you can walk across the middle really easily to different bits.
Right, I'm off to Silverstone for my ARDS...wish me luck :D
