Circuit racing in the UK - 1971 (period G) anyone?

Post by knutspeed » Thu Jan 20, 2011 2:19 pm

We're chewing at the idea of taking our two Imps to the UK for a race this summer (the Bevan tribute car + Doc's new car currently under construction). They are both Period G cars with FIA HTPs (66-71). Meaning spats and modern tires, weber carbs.

Are there any series we could enter with these? We'd prefer to race on the classic circuits, Brands, Cadwell, Donington, Oulton...
What noise levels are there at these races?

Thanks,
Matt

Thanks Colin!

The field looks rather modern, though? Ours are historic touring cars - much like the ones I've seen on this forum, the only difference being the wider wheels & arch extensions.

So we're not going up agains maniacs with Escort Cosworths and the likes :D We should be in a crowd of Fiat abarths, Minis etc. Or was I spooked?

Yes the field is fairly modern but there is quiet a few minis ans bettles out in it ,the problem with your car is they et you run in the historics over here its a bit like having a special saloon you just got to fit in where ever you can , you colud also look at the northern saloon car championship which i may be getting involved in ,but you could end up racing with caterhams and bike engined cars in that ,probably best to come over to watch 1 of the intermarque races and then see how you go ,or SEMSEC ,you could run in the saloon car races with them there is a few midgets ,minis and probably rob in his maguire stiletto

car is a credit to you

Hi Matt,

There is a Group 2 touring 70's series which runs as masters historic series.

The only problem is that it is full of BMW's, Capri's and larger class cars.

http://www.themastersseries.com/race-se ... g-70s.html

However it may be worth an entry as it is part of a good race meeting.

If you decide to come over let me know.

Regards

Jonathan

Thanks jonathan! Is there anything on a bit further into the season? We're barely rid of the ice in may, and we'll need to get the 2nd imp sorted (also desperate for a proper test day for the blue one). Sounds interesting, i'll pass it by the boss for review.
Not too worried about the bigger cars, we race 61-76 here in one field, from 1000cc near standard opel kadetts to a broadspeed capri and a kremer 911...and they all behave nicely.

Just send me a pitpass Matt and I'll come up as a paddock jockey for the day :D

I hope the trip back on the ferry with the Jack Knight went OK; really looking forward to seeing the cars perform in the UK 8)

All the best,

That'll be down to senior management

The footings for the house extension are in (29 tons of premix); now 1100 concrete blocks and 35 tons of Cotswold Stone await my stone saw, trowel and warmer temps.

It's going to be a long year both in and out of the garage.... :(

We'll definitely let you know Dave :)

And good luck with the house project, if you're looking to throw any of the Imp & Clan projects away you know where to throw them!
