Brands HSCC 11/9

Post by SimonBenoy » Sat Sep 04, 2010 2:50 pm

After the excitement of the Gold Cup at Oulton, the Historic Saloons move to Brands on the Indy circuit next week. There are currently 8 Imps entered and there could be 1 or 2 more yet. Sadly I won't be racing - I had a pushbike accident last Thursday and won't be fit in time.

There is also a Clan running in 70's roadsports and a Costin Nathan (not Imp powered as far as I know) in the Guards trophy.

I hope to be there to spectate.

Cheers - Simon

Costin Nathan (not Imp powered as far as I know)
There are two C-Ns being sporadically campaigned this year, one has a Lotus twin-cam the other has a BMW engine. So far as I know the only Imp-powered Costin currently in use is in Australia. If there are any kind benefactors out there who'll give me lots of pennies I could have an Imp C-N racing over here!?!

Get well soon, Simon.
Good luck to the rest at Brands.

There was an Imp powered Costin Nathan at Classic Le Mans this year....(though it had previously been Lotus powered).

They kept that quiet! I have heard that the original Le Mans C-N still exists. Must get myself to the Classic LM sometime...

Your right Jim

I built 2 engines for the Costin Nathen that ran at Classic Lemans
this year. They were both new top spec 1040 race engines. The company
that entered the car is called Oak Racing, they run and manage some real
nice race cars for paying clients. The engine was configured to run upright
with downdraft webers and a hewland at the rear. Oak Racing made their
own dry sump setup and fitted an alloy flywheel.

As far as I know the car didnt finish the race, but as I've heard nothing from
them I can only asume that their problems weren't engine related.

Cheers.......Stuart

Looks like they're at Silverstone next weekend - shame everyone's going to Brands!

I'll most likely be at the Brighton Speed Trials. It's a pity that they coincide, though, because I'd be at Brands otherwise.

Just found out that I'm seeing Jack on the Sunday so should be able to get to Brands early for an all-day stint for a change.

Tickets are only a tenner each if booked by tomorrow lunchtime... or add another £2 if paying on the gate.

All the info is here... http://ticket.motorsportvision.co.uk/ca ... -bh--.aspx

There are 9 Imps entered - Practice is at 10.06 with Race 4 at 14.45.

Looks good!

Yep, Peggy and I had a great day. 5th overall for Andy was a great result and commiserations to Graham for the damage to his beautifully prepared car.

No pics from me but Rich (Actuarius) took a few.

Good to meet Peter and Jonathan Bevan at last too!

A very entertaining day - Andy was the star mixing it with the bigger engined cars and Colin was right there too, though beginning to suffer a loss of power just before the red flags stopped the race a few laps early. Fantastic midfield scrap between 5 Imps plus a class E Mini, and a couple of Anglias. All action throughout the field - a great race with lots of overtaking every lap.

This was our first race meeting for many years and it was a superb day.
It was also great to see so many members present

Here are some of my shots...

I hope Graham's car is okay. It looks like that knock ought to pull out okay to my untrained eye.

well dome to new imp racer David Heale who placed himself 14 th overall right in amongst the imps! i believe he has done a fair bit before although not in an imp.
have put a little video on youtube of the first part of the race, before the red flag .just search ''HSCC Touring CARS Brands Hatch 11/9/10 hillman imps do battle ''
gutted to see Graham Martins immaculate imp damaged in somebody elses accident i have it on video and wil post it up after speaking with Graham.

Great video. I haven't been to Brands for years. Sit in the stands and you can see the whole of the Indy track. Unlike Silverstone where you cant see more then a couple of corners. I will have to get to Brands next year to see the HSCC.

Thanks to all the competitors, a great race with plenty of action and entertainment, although very sorry to see Graham's car end up like that. I think the indy circuit suits the Imps very well, and definitely better for the spectators. Also great to see Bill McGovern there. He seemed surprised to see so many Imps. I hope he was impressed with how well they went in the race!

Cheers,
John.

Depends where you are. The complex before the pits is good, standing down anywhere between Stowe and Club you can see half the GP circuit from Hangar Bridge to Abbey (well you could until they built the new pits) and if you stand at the top of the new Arena grandstand you can see most of the track all around you.
BTW the Costin-Nathan didn't show in the classic sports car race at Silverstone :(

Great pics from Brands, peeps! The Chevrons IMHO are among the most gorgeous-looking race cars ever!
