Hi,

Anyone I know who has done any sort of engine transplant usually gets round this one by using a clutch centre plate to match the gearbox and a clutch cover to match the engine.

You just need to get a spiggot bush for the ford to match the imp input shaft.

The imp bell housing is quite restrictive, what sort of adapter plate are you using ?

You could always re-drill the ford flywheel to take the imp clutch complete.

hi, im using an adaptor that just converts imp to ford. imp holes on one side and ford on the other. i could use an imp clutch but think with the amount of power from the engine would burn it out as soon as i start the engine!!! (approx 110bhp) i was thinking about having the imp splines off a clutch taken out, and re-riveted to a ford clutch but dont know if this will work?

HI,

Many other cars share the same splines as the imp, 1275 Midget for one, take an imp centre to a clutch specialist and get them to match one up for you.

Hi, i may have the very thing you are looking for. i once got a gearbox from a ginetta g12 that used an imp gearbox and a lotus twincam engine. i striped this box about 12 yrs ago to find that the crownwheel and pinion were shot so. as i never throw anything away it must be about somewhere. im sure that it was a different imput shaft than normal, if you can give me a day or so to have a look i will let you know. cheers Tim

Usually get round this one as said by using a clutch centre plate to match the gearbox and a clutch cover to match the engine. But if you can’t do this you can do one of two things. 1/ get a one off drive plate made lots of cash. 2/ or do what I did machine out the centre of two drive plates and tig weld the two parts to make what you need. I did this with BWM 525 tds engine to Toyota Hi Lux 4x4 gearbox first time we did it failed after 3500mil but Mk2 is going strong and has covered 15000mil. But I must say all the work needs to be top notch or you will get clutch judder.
