Rally Imps

Postby Impcy » Tue Feb 02, 2010 2:08 pm

Hi everybody,

there is a thread on spaceframe Imps and is proving very successful. Do any of you have any pictures of any rally Imps, either in action or of preparation of the cars to post that we can all share and enjoy?

It should be nice to see them as they are more close to the everyday runners rather than the spaceframe Imps, which are also very interesting to see!

Here's one of Uncle Malc at Down Ampney, near Cirencester in April 1983

Sorry it's not the sharpest of photo's, I'm saving those for Impressions!
Please consider doing the same as Grahame always needs good quality photo's for all members to see, but don't forget to supply some info to at least make an informative caption - Better still write article! 8)

I recognise it Pete but can't put a name to it.
It's got Dutche Components sticker on rear quarter.
Hopefully Malc will be along soon and tell us as he rallied at Bowood several times.

Used to be a guy called Andy Carre came from the Channel Isles and used to Rally an Imp in the South West in the early 80's sure his paint scheme was like that but don't remember Dutche sponsoring him, perhaps its Mr Dutche himself?

I don't think Dave Vanderlist was rallying at the time, Keith

May I also suggest that pictures get added to the gallery, the problem with them being in threads is if the thread gets deleted then all the pics go in one swoop

just a suggestion :D

Tony Todd (who did the free pics/DVDs for the 2008 Teesside trackday) has this on his web site...I think taken at Croft Circuit. Don't know who is driving the Imp but as sure as eggs are eggs someone on here will know.

This link shows Andrew Cowans Imp on the Mcrae Stages, posted last winter but still a great example.

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=10974&p=96949&hilit=mcrae+stages#p96949

Also worth noting, the HRCR have signed a deal so that all rounds of BHRC are televised on MOTORS TV for 2010 season including the tarmac of the Isle of Man, Flanders and the Ulster.

Peter,
with reference to Tony Todds picture.
I have just spoken to him and he said that the picture appeared in January's Impressions in the centre and on the rear cover.
The driver and navigator are Gary and Jane Edgington and it was at Croft.

Can I just remind people that we would prefer it if problems between customers and traders stayed between them rather than being posted here, I know that some people may disagree with this however we want this to be a positive place to be and these sorts of posts often decend into arguments. We are not trying to censor anyone, we just want to keep it peaceful here and keep the forum as a place where people get helped with their problems and things don't decend into arguements and bad feelings.

Thanks. 8)

could not agree more Chris, this thread will hopefully become as well populated as the space frame one and should be as good for historical information and all these types of threads should be protected or backed up somehow to save this historically significant info from being lost. it would be a shame for anything to be deleted or locked off for any reason, now back to the resource building of the rally imps i need to learn how to scan info and pics from magazines to post some more on here.

A couple of photos from the Severn Valley Stages in Mid-Wales yesterday, a tough day in the heat and dust for the three cars with only one making the finish unfortunately.

Great to see the cars out none the less amongst a field made up mostly of the ever popular Escort.

Re: Rally Imps

Postby impster » Sun Jun 06, 2010 6:07 pm

We all had cooling problems, mine started about 1 mile into stage 1 hence the reason we were so far off the pace, car was misfiring, throttle jammed on at 4000rpm and temp was up to and sometimes crept over 100 hence we just couldn't continue after stage 2. I had my foot the floor in second and could only get 5500 out of her on 2/3 cylinders!

It was 28 degrees and no wind, in places the dust from the car in front was still hanging in the air!

Talking to one of the other drivers yesterday afternoon, he had similar problems but kept going, hence the finish! Well done, at least he finished and took the second place slot!

Nice photos, looks like stage 1?

Was there much difference in speed /handling through that bend?

2nd,3rd and 4th photos all taken at junction 4 stage 1 Cefn and the 1st photo was taken at junction 4 stage 4 Gwebedog.

To be fair through stage 1 all of the Imp's looked pretty evenly matched at junction 4 where the ninety left scrubbed a lot of speed off followed by the 90 right at the top of the hill.

Most of the crews we saw were getting caught out at the first corner which I think must have appeared a lot more open than it was.

Are you planning on doing the Mid-Wales Stages or the Harry Flatters?
