We think the smoke was coming off the exhaust not out of it, there was a bit of oil dripping down. Great photo :)

Sounds like it was an excellent day's racing for all concerned, I'm just disappointed that i could be there to see it with you all.

Well done and thanks to the team of helpers who managed to get the engine swopped over so Simon could race, what a great group of members we have around us in times of need! 8)

Well done Simon on another superb class win after all the earlier drama and such a close race.

yes great photo ! Anybody got anything similar of my car ? Anyway got of with you guys to a slow start. ( it was my 1st race , 1st time round silverstone and 1st time at speed in a imp !!! At lunch i found my tyre pressures were all over the place and after a quick chat with simon and the dunlop guys re set them to a much more even higher setting ! Maybe this is where i found my 4 secs ? But was also advised to get on to M section patiere than the 5 year old new L sections i was running on sunday ! Lets hope there is more to come eh :D jim

Jim,

I have to say that I had been in your shoes I'd have been happy to just finish, you weren't even last in your class IIRC let alone in the race! I for one am looking forward to watching your progress. If that elusive lottery win comes up I'll be joining you guys that's for sure!

Wow, thanks for the compliments. First with regard to the camera, it's just a 6 year old Canon digital SLR with an 18-250 zoom, but as they say - it's not the camera that makes the photo. To be honest, I always take a million photos at races, and only 2 or 3 are ever perfect like the photo of Simon's car. To get the motion blur, you have to slow the shutter speed down. These were all taken at 1/100th of a second. The slower, the better, but the success rate goes down the slower you take it. I have a lot of blurred images, and 3 pin sharp ones. Oh, and you need a steady hand or tripod. The cold didn't help :D

The only other good photos from the race are these of the imps are these:

Image

And Jim, I'm afriad I don't have any really sharp ones of you, only this one, which is a bit blurred.

Cheers

That must be some seriously good panning technique you have there to get the photos quite so sharp. Good work!

Upload your photos to photobucket.com then copy and paste the fourth of the links assigned to each image into a post on here (make sure your images are no larger than 800 x 800 pixels first - photobucket can do this for you).

Hi John, you have to post the pictures somewhere else i.e photobucket or somewhere and link it in with the Img tags

[img]Picture%20URL%20between%20here[/img]

Alternativly you could post them in the motorsport section of the gallery (see the link top left). If you need any help let me know.

Cheers.

Company wont let me fit anything to my demo merc. But i have the bug now and hope to be out again very soon. All the best for all the drivers at the next round. Jim

was all down to the kindness of colin roony that i got to silverstone for the season opener ! Could chance it and drive there and hopefully drive a un damaged car home at the end of the day :?: but i guess i cant chance it. Am looking out for a good jeep px car at work. Just nothing has come up ! Also need a trailor or could go mad and buy a old transit / sherpa flat bed ! ! ! :D would rather sell the mrs fiesta and get her a nice new tow car ! Work are so tight wont give me even a scrappage tow car !

They would not be allowed to, even if they wanted to. It's the way the rules on scrappage are written.

Jim,

I may sell my wonderful old Saab 900i (1986, so a proper Saab none of the GM nonsense) in the not too distant future. It already has a tow bar on the back and in the day they were reckoned to be one of the best tow cars around. Classic insurance, cheap bits, easy to look after. Win. I'm only selling it as I want a smaller car (driveway logistics). If you're interested pick it up off line...

hiya guys be gals. Well thro the great kindness of andy i will be at silverstone on the 16th may ! As i am only doing local ish rounds this year to settle me and the car into the ways of motor racing it also gives me time to get the correct towing equipment for the job ! Brian James trailor looks the way forward the tow car is any guess ! Just has to be functional any offers considered ! Anyway all the best for all the imp racers and support that is traveling to Cadwell Park this weekend ! Any new faces ? And again my thanks to all the people who i dont properly know but have offere me so much help and support. All i can say is i am quite proud to be in such a supportive motor club that is ours ! Thanks. jim

Post by ChrisBenoy » Sun Jun 06, 2010 6:38 pm

Incorrect Jim, we did decide to go along for a bit of socialising  . We turned up after practice to find all the imps going well.

In the first race Colin Gunton took the class win (two in two) and finished 7th overall despite a massive slide going through coram trying to get around the outside of the Jaguar. Andy Jones developed a misfire and was caught by Steve Platts who overtook him on the final lap of the race to take second in class. Both Matrin Bramwell and Vince Frost put in strong performances finishing 11th and 13th respectivly. Only Shaun Hazlewood didn't finish, his run of bad luck continuing with a knackered diff off the start line. (oh and Ian Gunton couldn't get his car out as he has had tow vehicle problems and could get his car out?

7th Colin Gunton
8th Steve Platts
9th Andy Jones
11th Martin Bramwell
13th Vince Frost

Fastest lap: Andy Jones

In the second race Colin was once again at the front of the class, sadly in a repeat of Silverstone his exhaust parted company with his manifold and was forced to retire. Steve Platts took a first (I think, correct me if i'm wrong) and deserved class win once again hunting down a misfiring Andy Jones in the final couple of laps to take the win. Martin and Vince both finished well again but I don't have the results for that race so I can't tell you exactly how things finished.

That is now four different class E winners this year (Simon Benoy, Andy Jones, Colin Gunton, Steve Platts) so it is good and competative.

Was a really good event, was really nice to have a stress free meeting and just get to chat to people and watch the race without any stress. The weather even held off and stayed nice although if it had rained the imps may have profited.

Jim - Croft is during Imp2010, Oulton Park is at the end of August. So there might be 4 Imps at Croft. Let's just try to get to Brands first!
