What a great tread this is,it is worth while to point out that there really is some interest in imps and racing etc,we should put all these cars to gether have an open day exchange ideas, get featured in some credible magazine,i am going to set up a deal with imp component suppliers, and for people that want parts these will be available at cheaper rates,i will buy big and buy right and pass on to any (genuine) imp racing car owner, will only be available to people that own a racing imp

Keith there is lots of intrest in special saloons be it imps or mini's and part of the reason is to buy them and stick a bike engine in ,but as i said in another thread i love the sound of the imp on full chat and would rather see people do as megapin is doing and build a new chassis ,that way these special saloons will survive and with a bit of luck we may get to hold historic special saloon car races someday

Perhaps a good moment to mention Gerry's HTS classicandracing website...

Id like to get involved with what col has suggetsed so ive just emailed. There is also a northern based series that races currectly at Oulton park and anglsey which has big grids and its a good crack.

i think colin the problem will be there are lots of old stuff out there which wont be upto spec and will never be rebuilt within the forseable future , then theres the point of suppliers wanting daft money for stuff. You know my view on that. Lets see what happens though

A couple more pictures of the mason imp currently under restoration

If all goes to plan it should be out next season competing in the semsec championship
The owner is making a stunning job of the rebuild, it should be very competitive.

Davrian imps handle as good as a spaceframe i think you will find its all down to driver style and Maurice likes to have the car set up soft so it digs in and lifts the front wheel as high as in the picture above ,all imps will tend to get a wheel of the ground like the 1 of leo going around the outside of the evo ,this is down to the short springs and the suspension being strapped up to stop the shock dropping and the spring becoming loose

Hi all, great thread! Good idea John! I'll have a root around and see what I can dig out. I actually have some great pictures of the old <1350cc Irish GT class, which Col's father Dan dominated in the late 80s and early 90s, despite the presence of numerous Davrians, 1380 Minis and semi spaceframe Midgets! I'd like to think I am having similar battles with similar cars these days but the ban on slicks means that even with track improvements, I can't get anywhere near the times Dan used to so around Mondello 20 years ago! Mind you, I'm lucky I have the tyres to blame cos I wouldn't fancy my chances in a straight fight with Mr Rooney Senior anyway!!!

Yeah, as ever, Col is spot on. I haven't really started changing the chassis set up on mine (the white one in the gallery) as we were chasing a misfire and a soft brake pedal most of the season, but I do intend to play with it a little this year. It tends towards a little understeer on turn in but if I throw it in it is fine, then it is a matter of timing. As soon as I feel the back beginning to let go (before the apex) I stand on the power and it just squatts and goes, that is where it gains most time on other cars. If I am slow in getting the power on, it will need an armful of opposite lock to sort it and is easily held, but this slows the corner exit. You can see most of this on the above youtube clip, especially on the last corner when the back can brake away just after turn in. (Ignore lap one, that's one of my many boo-boos!!)

This is the only Bevan Car I can actually remember racing.

It used lotus parts for the supsension with a ford BDG engine and Hewland Gearbox.

It was actually the last Bevan car.........

Earling Jensen's spaceframe 998 stiletto , multi outright championship winning car in the castle combe special GT championship in the 1990s looked after by Ray Payne . Its best time was 1:06 in practice ( 1:07 in the races ) on the old circuit , thats averaging 100 mph .., The most successful space frame Imp of the later years having won the same championship outright in Brian cuttings hands on more than one occasion It was a giant Killer :D
