Re: VAK 1972 Clan Crusader

Checking with the digital thermometer revealed the Racetech capillary gauge is over reading by about 10 degrees at 90. Have ordered a new one despite this one being only 2 years old but was always a bit short so this time its the 12ft rather than 9ft so will fit better. While checking went round mea...

What should be a simple task quickly becomes a PIA. Took the Clan out today to check the changes I had done were good, temp behaved itself so drain once more, flush and refill with antifreeze mix. Re: VAK 1972 Clan Crusader

Peter

VAK's exhaust is solidly mounted to the engine, it's likely that it's one of the two heat shields that is vibrating but more difficult to alter their mountings so altering the exhaust mounts and hope that changes the frequency.

Thanks anyway.

Last couple of times out I've noticed the Clan has been running hotter, normally 82-85 degrees with an occasional rise to 90 if stuck traffic although I might have sorted that previously when I changed the kick in point for the fan :? Sits at 82 then creeps up to 90 and doesn't fall back so readily....

I dont know if I would do that today, it does look rather a mess and its easy to get around and do the adjustment properly, but I suppose on the line they wouldnt have time to recut and weld at that stage, still a bodge though isnt it? Bonnet repairs, rather than continuously weld the repair and then have to grind off decided to spot weld it with local seam welds.

Repairing bonnet and interesting to see the result of the factory adjustment to get the alignment right. Slightly confused with the last post but it has been a long day, just back from Irish Experience.

If the pic of the latch is the new fitting, that is the correct way, if it was fitted otherwise it was wrong before.

They are around but not cheap, mainly squirrelled away and difficult getting people to part with them - rightly so.

Makes restorations much easier and better quality.

Just need a Drivers side complete side for a Van and we have the complete set. Anyone willing to help out :?:
