Re: 3 Imps entered in a stage rally in the South over Christ

Scott and Paul Its a long story. But when I built the car it was suggested that I convert it from high to low pivot point. We ran this for three rallies and never really got the camber right (always too much negative). You can witness this from photographs in the Motorsport part of the forum or on o...

Re: 3 Imps entered in a stage rally in the South over Christ

The 'official' photographer at Longmoor has posted pictures of us at: http://www.rallygallery.com/2011_LOCO.aspx?Page=45 There are also a few photographs of Mike Smith in the ex Simon Whitehead car that poor Mike is have problems with. We at last are beginning to get to grips with our front suspensi...

Re: 3 Imps entered in a stage rally in the South over Christ

Sadly Geoff Taylor had to withdraw his entry in the Longmoor stages yesterday due to engine problems and Mike Smith suffered a transmission failure, thought to be the differential, early on in the rally. We managed to stay in the rally with our Chamois but our brilliant service crew Mike Dent (Moose...

3 Imps entered in a stage rally in the South over Christmas

For the first time for ages there are three Imps entered in a stage rally on December 30th (Longmoor Loco Stages Rally near Liphook, Hants) and there is no historic class! Such is the interest that a piece in Motorsport News this week was headed "Imps will be stars at Longmoor". Still a long way fro...

Front top Koni type spring seats

I am looking for a pair of steel cups / spring sdeats used with Koni wide body (HD) front shockers. They are the cup that the top of the springs fit into and sit under the wheelarch top spring mount. They have a similar function to the rubber upper spring seats used as standard but the inside dimens...

Re: LINES INSIDE

I would suggest that in a stage rally car (used on gravel) that fuel pipework is routed inside the car and I agree with the advice to keep it down the centre tunnel. Fuel is obviously one of the things over which you don't cut corners. I used an Aeroquip type hose that allows no fuel smell to permea...

Re: Rally Forum (Sticky like the HSA forum)

Henry and I had a very successful weekend at the Cambrian Rally on 8th October. Based in Llandudno, there were 6 stages through the Penmachno, Clogaenog and Alwen forests followed by two passes through the stunning 2.94 mile Great Orme tarmac coast road which follows the headland facing the Irish Se...

Re: Historic Stage Rallying

This weekend at the Cambrian Rally ( http://www.cambrianrally.co.uk/ ) may be the last opportunity this year to see an 'Imp' on a multi venue stage rally as the BHRC championship has ended prematurely with the cancellation of the Isle of Man rally. Henry and I will be out again on Saturday at this r...

Re: HRCR - Neath Valley Stages

Rod - Actually the stages were relatively smooth (but seriously slippery). Walters is a disused open cast coal site and the surface is a sort of shale/coal type of material mixed with mud. There seems to be no drainage downwards so the water sits on the surface and mixes with the mud to give a very ...

Re: HRCR - Neath Valley Stages

Many thanks to Gurnsimps for coming up to us in service. We were a little preoccupied as this was our first gravel event but is was good to know he was there waving the Imp flag for us!. Walters Arena has a reputation for being rough but new and unused tracks had been opened up for the Neath Valley ...

Historic Stage Rallying

Many thanks for all those who have helped with advice over the building of my car. It's first gravel stage outing is tomorrow 13th August at the Neath Valley Stages at Walters Arena (South Wales). http://www.threecountiescarclub.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=25&Itemid=3 Sadly we w...

Re: Speedo drive with Viva hubs / discs

Mike I am using low pivot point front suspension mounts - would that make a difference? I suspect that I have a home made retaining clip and I see in the workshop manual mention of a rubber washer (which I don't have) - maybe I should start again with a new screw, new clip and a rubber washer? I gue...

Re: Speedo drive with Viva hubs / discs

Nick Thanks. Yes the Terratrip involves a transducer that takes the mechanical input from the speedo drive and converts it to an electrical impulse that feeds the unit itself. I am glad to hear your installation works well but one of the problems is the Viva hub / disc is wider than standard Imp (he...

Speedo drive with Viva hubs / discs

Hello Has anyone found a foolproof way of engaging the speedo cable on a car fitted with the Viva hubs /disc setup. With mine, every time I get full right lock the cable drive pulls out of engagement with the plastic pawl. I have no real need to know what speeds the car is going but I do need a accu...

The Mini crowd use Pit Stop in Brize Norton but I plan to use Bradleys / B Tec racing at Shipton u Wychwood who have a long history with classic competition cars see http://www.btecracing.co.uk/index.htm

Competition seats / belts and wheels for sale

Hello I've put some competition seats, harnesses and wheels, on eBay, taken from my rally Chamois. Have a look at 'Classic Car Parts / Hillman' as usual. The seats and belts are 'as new' having sat unused for 7 years! I'm happy to participate in an Imp Club 'pony express' for a fellow member. Regard...

Tow points

Is there a generally accepted best method for attaching front and rear tow points to a competition Imp? Is using one of the bumper mounting points considered to be strong enough or is local strengthening deemed necessary?
