Re: 12th National Hillman Rally - Bathurst

It is a real rarity. As you might expect for a car that had 50% of the market, there were a couple of different cylinder heads made for the early Holden motor, for people who wanted to make a lot more power than was possible with the restrictive standard head that had 3 inlet and 4 exhaust ports for...

I will post some photos of the track but in the interim (because I have them to hand!) here are some from the National Motor Racing Museum. George Reed Special (replica), built in the 1940s with a 239ci (3.8 litre) flat head Ford V8, which won the 1951 Australian GP in Narrogin WA (replica built by ...

Re: 12th National Hillman Rally - Bathurst

No there is just the Mount Panorama track that is on the edge of town. Originally built as a 'scenic drive' pre-WWII which was a but of a nudge/wink job to have the road sealed. When not being used for racing it is public road, two way and 60km/h speed limit (which does get enforced to deter people ...

12th National Hillman Rally - Bathurst

It has been an gone now, but the National Hillman Rally was held over Easter in Bathurst NSW. Approximately 40 Hillmans (& Commers) were in attendance, mostly Minxes and Hunters but more importantly 3 Imps! One from Melbourne, one from Adelaide (which was towed across behind a Commer truck) and one ...

Re: Our restoration: Bevan Imp replica from Tenerife

Hi Jorge, Depending on what you want to do building the engine and what parts you have, you might buy a converted block, or a block with pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft or even a complete engine from one of the usual Imp suppliers, it should be easier and likely cheaper than getting someone ...

Why not mount the light to the inside of the glass - and leave it there? I doubt anyone would ding you on the originality front for wanting to help prevent dimwits running into the back of you.

Unfortunately replacement pipes are a bit hard tofind out here. Alastair, to replace the bottom hose because it is a simple shape I took an old one to the auto store and rummaged through the baskets. I think it was a Suzuki Sierra hose that I ended up with, which was longer and had a larger-radius ...

How about a few from the old & unusual category? Anglia-derived would mean a Cosworth head wouldn't it? I dare say that had more power potential than an Imp - a 36mm restrictor is not to be sneezed at.

Well in light of the JoLon trip it is a trifle! But it is 1600+ miles one way from Linwood to Perth/ that is, South Australia to Western Australia across the Nullarbor Plain. So that would be 3 long days each way as a minimum, and would test out how much time people could organise. Nullarbor means n...

Hi Paul, I'm not sure if the air filter set-up on your car originated in Australia, they tried a couple of different setups here finishing with what you have described - which may validate the 1967 date - I have a 1966 with the prior setup where the air was drawn from vents under the rear window. Leedy I don't think the general point "why so wide" was out of line as you hadn't pointed out your experience in the first post and plenty of 'new' Impers ask the same question. The Imp is such a different proposition from most cars in terms of weight distribution and camber change that these things...

I like James' idea, it also shifts the weight of the gearbox forwards. You'll need to consider the weight of your luggage - you want to be able to open the throttle without pulling wheelies all the time!
