Re: What did you do to your Imp today?

I did a bit more connecting up of the engine today. I am going to run the standard Solex with a sport exhaust, but had quite a bit of trouble getting any clearance between the drain/air tube and the exhaust manifold. Even with a sharp bend on the tube I still ended up having to put a "calibrated" de...

Re: What did you do to your Imp today?

Checked torqued the cylinder head with a calibrated torque wrench, lifted the engine off the stand, fitted the clutch. Then as I was on a roll I fitted it back into the car :)

Re: What did you do to your Imp today?

Collected the overhauled cylinder head from Reg Patten yesterday. Fitted it today. I am going to borrow a calibrated torque wrench from work tomorrow to double check the head bolts, before I close it up. Hopefully it will be back in the car by the weekend. http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq293/Je...

A seat cover set also arrived today… Seat looks brilliant, Simon. Is someone remanufacturing these? Imp011 No, it was a good secondhand one from eBay. I have seen one car that was recently retrimmed in leather but in the original style. It looks brilliant, probably expensive though. Simon Imp004

Re: What did you do to your Imp today?

Painted the oil filter bowl, light blue. Also cleaned up the fan and water pump assembly, and the bell housing. Routed around in the shed, found and fitted good clutch release bearing. The engine is out of the car and in many pieces. The head is away for new valves and guides and the small end bushe...

I cleaned the cylinder head bolt holes on the engine block by running a tap through them. Also swapped the starter bendix gear for a better one from an unserviceable starter.

Well it's been over 2 years since the car was dragged from a slightly less than weatherproof shed in our back garden. Since then it has moved from the back garden to the front garden, where it has spent nearly 2 years under a car cover. Today I managed to move it again, this time into a proper garag...

I am currently on a caravan holiday near to Hay-on-Wye, we have driven passed the Rising Sun 3 times so far!
If the Imp survives the national, the engine is playing up, I plan to attend the WW this year. If you can put me down for one man in a tent, that would be great.

Good to hear that the car ran well and that you had a good time, Noddy. :) How much petrol did it use? Glad you got back ok despite the minor glitch. Prety good considering the miles you covered. My trip was a little shorter, 240 miles to home, via the transporter bridge, it took almost exactly 4 hours. My engine also used no coolant, but more than made up for it with its thurst for oil! A quart each...

It also depends how long you plan to keep the car. When I restored my Imp in 1989 I spent £1200, which was probably 3 or 4 times the value of the car at that time. But it was never about the money for me, just the pleasure of doing the job and saving the car. The same will apply to the next Imp that...
