O` lucky man! Good work nipping it in the bud and averting a disaster for a great looking car. I`ve had a smoker or 2, not an Imp, and it exercises the sphincter muscle eh?!
I hope you get it back on track soon.

You will sort it in the next 48hrs mate, guaranteed. 75 Imp. To the paintshop...

My apologies for zero updates on this thread. I gave up shortly after the above with the SU`s and went back to the Solex and all is great again. I will give them another go at a later date, with a different car. I think it was down to a lack of time and patience in the end, as I bought some new part...

That's what I was getting at but I've never needed mole grips, just a small adjustable spanner. Hook it all up on the deck, springs and all, offer it up, lever it in, bung the spring pins in and your sorted. Front or back, never fails. 8)

Can I just say that I love the patina on a car like that. Could you find a way to make it tidy, solid, legal and still keep some patina? Easier said than done Graham, unless it's garaged 24/7 and only used sparingly in the summer, it doesn't stay that way, sadly. Everything becomes more 'patinated'...
