Re: oil sump

Hi all. Thanks for posting the photos for me Col. This sump holds about the same amount as the usual modified long sump. Most of the additional oil in this sump is in a much better position to keep the pump pick up pipe fed when braking or on left hand corners. Obviously there is more to this sump t...

Re: oil sump

Hi all. I shall be bringing several of my latest design side chamber competition sumps to the Imp National on Saturday for clients. This sump is currently being used by Colin Gunton on (ex) my championship winning car in the HSCC saloons to good effect. Anyone interested can find me on Mark Maynards...

Re: imp dry sump

I can vouch for the quality of Mikes sump I am running one at the moment, after changing over from the Catrol R to Valvolene 20/50 ran it all last year and works great and do not see a need for the expense of a dry sump. In fact Mike I keep meaning to ask can you make me another for my new engine C...

Re: imp dry sump

Hi all. I developed the sump with a side chamber for several reasons. I would never lower the bottom of the pan as it makes it very vulnerable to grounding. My race car is so low at the rear that the drive shaft knuckles hit the inner arch/chassis rail above going down the first corner (Paddock hill...

Hillman Imp GDD192D

Hi. GDD192D. Anyone know of the whereabouts of this Imp?. This was my rally car from 1979 to 1983. It was much modified with the engine hung from above, no rear chassis legs or rear panel. It was painted Ford electric blue. I sold it in the early/mid 90's as a rolling shell but can't remember who to...

Clan sump guard

Hi. When I rallied an Imp in 1979-81, I used a sheet of dural from the body of a council rubbish truck in a scrap yard. This was angled up at either end and brackets made to hang it off the engine and gearbox with a thick piece of foam rubber in between. Light weight and strong. Never had any proble...

Roll cage mounts

Hi Huffygas. Your cage looks great but i'm sure MSA regs dont allow cages to extend beyond the axle line. Yours seems to extend down to the front suspension front mount. When i built Mike Dowsetts Historic Imp shell I fitted the back stays to the top of the spring seat with 2 shear bolts through to ...

Enlarged sump

Hi. I enlarge all my sumps using Mig weld and never had a leaky one yet. I don't paint the insides as the paint may flake off and clog the oil strainer. Lets face it the sump inside is the best rust proofed bit of the car!! Regards. Mike

Hi all, I have posted a copy of my power graph plot in the Album because I don't know how to do it on here. "Mr Spam" the Rolling Road operator used fourth gear to do the power run and only ran the car to 8,250 rpm and, as you can see from the graph, when he lifted off the power was still rising. Th...

Hi all . I was very lucky to start the race at all never mind win the class. The clutch wasnt disengaging after practice. We bled the clutch which seemed to improve it, but it failed again in parcferme and stalled the engine on the grid for the warm up lap. The marshalls push started me and i formed...

Race car weights

Hi all. Regarding car weights, my car was weighed after Castle Combe race on electronic race scales & found to be 604 kilos with my helmet on board. The car was again weighed after the next race at Oulton Park on their weighbridge at 603 kilos without my helmet, so i think it is safe to say 603 kilos...

:D Hi Nick. yes it has been a very good championship for me. The car finished all the rounds entered, although not all without problems, like breaking the lsd outer casing( Silverstone, Brands and Croft like this) splitting the transaxle diff housing (Snetterton) but the best was Croix in France. In...
