Thanks for the info, will make some enquieries. The gearbox has other problems, not just selecting third gear. I had to replace the battery from my singer here in spain. Had no problem in finding an exact replacement (round terminals). Apparently it is the same battery as the small Suzuki jeep has.

hi Lars, That's another possibility that I hadn't thought about. The fact is that as I rev the engine the amount of smoke increases and doesn´t clear. The smoke has that smell of burnt oil, and there's no coolant in the exhaust, even if I rev it hard. The car is almost ready for its first test drive...

Started bleeding the cooling system today and soon found out the I have a water cooled fuel tank :x The heater valve and the steel elbow that it is mounted on looks like a modification and not original. washing up liquid bottle worked fine to squirt the new oil into the gearbox.
Need to find some hose now to bleed the cooling system.

from the first pictures I was going to congratulate you on have such a sound bodyshell. After seeing the pictures of the Sills its obvious that it has some serious structural problems to be welded up. Never the less, looks like a good project car with progress speeding ahead.

thanks for checking col. Being a sales rep´s car it would have done a very high mileage in all weathers. Bearing in mind that the Imps have been known to have occasional minor cases of rust :oops: it may well be in the great Imp scrapyard in the sky :(
