Re: Historic Touring Cars 2013

I heard through the Mini scene that Christian Devereux racing in the Historic Touring cars was killed in an accident at Donington today. I hope that none of the guys here were involved and have a safe season.

Re: DRU 596L First car Project

I can only echo what BasilImp said about the engine - it isn't as bad as you might expect. The same 998 was no more expensive than a standard 875.

Loving the look of this build so far.

Good luck. Get some pictures up!

My Dad has been doing his Herald convertible for years now - he finished the chassis about 18 months ago. Then I brought home an Imp, a VW Camper and a Mini Van.... and he got a Cortina

Re: Buncombe Chevron Imp

Interesting little extra info!

When I saw the magazine I did a quick forum search for Buncombe and didn't get anything. Thought it best to get the camera out and add a bit of extra Imp history to the site.

Buncombe Chevron Imp

Saw a magazine dated January 1976 last night at a Car club meeting, mentioned an Imp - hopefully the photo is the correct car: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b252/JPS-Lotus86/b536e1a6.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b252/JPS-Lotus86/169c86dd.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b252/JPS-Lo...

Re: FAF: Relatively spectacular engine failure

I've just spoken to my Dad (who built it) and the valve guides, stems collets - everything from that head were the same parts that were in it when I bought it from you. The work carried out was the machining on the block to +40 and the new pistons.

Re: FAF: Relatively spectacular engine failure

Honestly I don't know what to say Frank, I did 500 miles careful running in at low revs with that car, then about 50 at higher revs and I didn't have a single problem - no warning signs either.

I'm really sorry to read this.

Frank, I have given this thread a bump because:

1) I would like to know how did it feel to be behind the wheel of FAF again?

2) Can we all see some pictures of FAF with the your wheels fitted?

Re: VLJ 920J My latest imp :D

Could that just be it not being on cam? Pretty much this from my experience with the engine. Accelerate from under 3000 or so rpm and it won't pick up that much, but you can HEAR the difference as it hits that sweet spot. There is a different "howl" sound. EDIT: Though like I said, fuelling, points...

FAF is up for sale now, I will be making a for sale advert later on.

Change in situation means that it is no longer practical.

Please no comments of you should keep it/mothball it etc.

Re: FAF... Calm before the Storm!

It should recover, but I was never in an ideal position in FAF - I am not really a fan of Cobra Classics, I prefer the more upright seating position that the Monaco's (I think they are) provide.

Mini went tonight, so that has freed up some space!

Re: FAF... Calm before the Storm!

The Good: Well, the '91 Mini City was put on the grass outside my house yesterday - 10 people stopped within 3 hours, a few phone calls later and I have agreed a price to sell it - should be gone by tomorrow evening. The bad: I still can't fit in FAF, my legs cannot get into a safe driving position....

No intentions of getting another Imp, quite happy to just have my Audi as my daily and my Imp as the fun toy. At the moment there are 3 cars on the lawn out the back as it is, 2 cars have to go and then we will finally have some room to move about!

Re: FAF... Calm before the Storm!

Tax, MOT and Insurance are up on my Mini soon, and I want to sell it but have had no luck as the paintwork was very tatty. Had to get the paintwork done so that it can be put up for sale again. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b252/JPS-Lotus86/f9406fa8.jpg Hopefully the car will be sprayed by next ...
