Re: PES 989J... "The Pest" ....Oooh the headlining!!!!

It probably didn't show at all when the car was first built - the glue tarnishes, and turns brown over the intervening years due to sunlight and heat.

I'm sure that even the dubious Quality Control of the day would have said something about it if it showed as it does now.

Roy, for heaven's sake, stop worrying about the oil drip! It's normal.

Just drive the car and enjoy it after all the time you have spent on it!

Cut a new gasket / washer from a thin flat sheet of Viton for the filler cap, but remember to smear a light film of rubber grease onto one face so that it will slide on the filler neck to get the cap on.

Take them to your local seal supplier and get a metric equivalent - you will be able to get ones that are a fraction tighter fit round the shafts if a leak is that much of a problem. (ie if they have grooves worn into them).

That's a real shame to hear that about NJK 999M. When my brother and I repainted it many years ago, it had 86k miles on it, was running the original engine and didn't use any oil whatsoever. It ran beautifully and was quite nippy for a standard Sport. It also had been waxoiled from new, and had abso...

I have a similar type tool that came from an army tank toolkit that comprises of a cylindrical piece of metal that is exactly 15 thou thick and slips over the centre post of a distributor shaft so that the points can be set with the shaft in any position.

Be careful not to make this modification too stiff (ie don't use plate that is any thicker than original steel) when making the closing plate for the outside of the H bracket. Re: EHK 744G - 1969 Super - feel in way over my head!

When removing doors (if you really feel you have to), I find that if you grind away the threaded part of the bolts that protrudes into the wheel arch through the welded captive nuts, then you will find that the heat will allow you to then undo what's left. Then fit new (stainless?) ones when refitti...

Drill and tap the small lug that has the cable outer passing through it, then you can put a small bolt in to just pinch it enough so that it doesn't slide out. That's how it is on the Webers. Alternatively, if that's too much work for now, you could put a drop of super glue around it while holding i...

When you come to fit the doors, I always use spare 'floating' captive plates from the top hinges (inside the shell, but removable by hand) at the bottom in the wheelarches instead of the flimsy thin ones that came from the factory and rust as soon as they see water. Advantage is that it is a solid d...
